Childhood and Leisure

Camp Scatico
I was aged 23 and had finished my degree course at university. Before starting employment in a graduate capacity in England, I engaged with a vocational development organisation (BUNAC) who found me a placement as the ‘camp driver’ on a children’s summer camp in the USA.  I was based at Camp Scatico in the New York State, which I loved. Camp French Woods
I was aged 19 and prematurely terminated my apprenticeship at a steel factory to go university to study engineering.  Before starting at university I engaged with a vocational development organisation (Camp America) who placed me at at Camp Woodstock in Connecticut as a counsellor, to teach athletics, swimming and soccer.  The Woodstock placement didn’t work out and I was re-assigned to a different camp in Pennylvania, named Camp French Woods.  I was given a maintenance job as painter (of the wooden huts and camp buildings), before progressing to running the laundry.  Clicking this link takes you to a page displaying some of the photos of my experience and PDFs of the diary I made.
